Undertail project

I started making a template for an undertail to fill in the space between the tailsection and the inner fender. Probably make the actual piece from a thinner plastic and paint it red. Carbon/kevlar would look good but it has to be pretty flexible to install.

Radiator project

Just finishing the upper bracket fabrication using aluminum sheet and epoxy. I'll let it dry and install it tomorrow to figure out the hoses I need.

Yay! Finally the radiator spigots are on. I ended up taking it to a different welding fabrication shop to get the welding done and then back to the rad shop for a pressure test.

The first rad shop I went to didn't want to touch it and didn't think anybody else would. They recommended someone else for a second opinion and I went to see him the same day.

I was able to help the crotch heat situation. I installed a rubber engine cover from a GL1500 over the rear cylinder head. There is still some heat coming out between the tank and tailsection, but it's not nearly as bad as before.

Here's a comparison between the new rad and a stock (albeit crossflowed) lower.

Ride height adjuster finished

Had a small cylinder welded onto the top for the adjuster nut and then redrilled the hole. Just a little more finishing on the clevis side and it's almost ready to mount.

Before I found and converted the RC45 Ohlins shock, I was just going to build a ride height adjuster using an original upper shock mount. I was working in the shop and decided to finish it anyway. A little crude, but I think it's pretty good using only a bandsaw and a drillpress. The clevis is from a KX dirtbike, I think.

Just now fitting the Ducati 17" rim I bought some time ago. Machined out the center to fit and I still have to modify a conical spacer to hold it on. A used D207 tire rubbed the swingarm and the chain, but as it's down to the cords already I just shaved some rubber from the left side. Not sure about the colour though. I was thinking white, black or painting an F3 front to match the original colour. A friend sent me a Photoshop of the rim in white and I was able to do several myself in different colours.

I have the adjustable length Ohlins shock finished as well. I modified a new RC45 shock to RC30 specifications but it was still too long. I happened to acquire a used Ohlins RC30 shock (and new Ohlins fork springs) and was able to figure out what piece I needed. I'll be installing it along with the Muzzy exhaust, as well as servicing the rear swingarm pivot and linkage. If anyone is interested in the other shock, it might be up for sale as soon as it's back together.

The Muzzy exhaust I bought off eBay from a guy in the UK. He bought it from a guy in Alberta. Now it's back and ready to roar. And roar it will as the can is straight through, no baffle. I also acquired a LH Yoshimura carbon can from a TL1000R.

Here are the new pegs I installed from a CBR1000RR. Good for 0.2 seconds in turn nine at Willow Springs dontcha know. Strictly for looks of course. Yes, the gearshift linkage is a race setup, one up and the rest down. I have had my Interceptor this way for a long time and prefer it to a street pattern.

Yes, all of these pics are in front of my garage, but I have ridden it several times this last week. Enough to know it still burns my thighs, literally. I tried some Water Wetter and it doesn't go much above 90 on the temp guage, but the airflow through the fairing still pushes considerable heat out between the fuel tank and tailsection, right into my crotch!

It's like learning to ride all over again. My Interceptor is like a chopper compared to this bike! It will probably take me all summer just to get used to riding normally, never mind getting my knee down at a track day or something.

Took a picture of the insulation I put under the carbs. A few sheets of fabric aluminized on one side. The previous owner had installed a plastic sheet, but there was no gap betwen the rad and frame. I figured this might work better.

And the PVM master cylinder won't fit. It will hit the guages before full left lock. And there's not a lot of steering lock to go around. I'll either sell it or use it on another bike.

The front end is back together! New fork seals, Maxton spec 10W oil at 120mm, EBC discs and HH pads. The gravel is almost gone. So now what's here? The rain! Oh well. I still don't have the Ohlins shock together yet.

The tail looks pretty good bare, but I'm still not sure. I guess I'll ride it the way it is and see how I like it. If I find some gold pinstripe that matches the fairing, I'll try and get the white and blue in vinyl stripe.

I finally have two round brakes discs! The warranty replacement for the out of round disc I bought last year has arrived. They're mounted with titanium discs bolts and I have EBC HH pads ready to be installed.

I bought a load of used RC30 parts from an RC30 Owners Club member in the UK. Carb parts, a set of crossflowed radiators, an oversize top radiator and some brake linkage parts.

As you can see, one of my projects that has fallen by the wayside is to clean the place up.
